Summary

Android Authority has found code for sound stickers, a toggle to remove the outline WhatsApp adds to stickers users make, and a two-line compose box in WhatsApp’s Android app, according to an APK teardown published on 16 October 2026. All three are still under development, the site says. Android Authority enabled the sound sticker feature on its own device to show how it could work. The teardown shows a sound wave icon in the toolbar when a user makes a sticker from an image. Tapping it offers two options, Android Authority says: record a voice clip or pick an audio file from the phone. Either way the clip is capped at 10 seconds, and longer files can be trimmed to fit. Once sent, the sticker carries a volume icon that plays the attached sound, according to the teardown. Video stickers work differently. According to the teardown, WhatsApp automatically takes five seconds of audio from the video file and attaches it to the animated sticker. The user can then swap that audio for a recording or for a file stored on the phone. WABetaInfo reported the sound sticker format earlier, on 13 October, after finding it in WhatsApp beta for Android 2.26.41.3. The site says a sound sticker shows an audio icon in the chat, plays when tapped and respects the phone’s silent mode. A volume icon on the sticker mutes it, and WhatsApp keeps that setting for later sound stickers. WABetaInfo says the feature is under development and not yet available. Today WhatsApp adds an outline to every sticker a user makes and offers no way to remove it, Android Authority says. The teardown found a toggle in the sticker creation screen that switches the outline on or off. Android Authority also found work on the compose box in the code. Right now, the site says, it is a single-line field with icons for attachments, the camera and other features on the right. The teardown shows a two-line box that could put those extra features on the bottom line and leave the top line clear for typing. “It’s unclear what the purpose of this would be unless WhatsApp plans to add icons for more features to the bottom row,” Android Authority said. What it means for you There is nothing to switch on yet. The features are not available in the current app, and WABetaInfo says WhatsApp has not announced when sound stickers will be ready. Android Authority says features found in teardowns can change before release or may never ship at all. If released as the teardown shows, image stickers would carry up to 10 seconds of recorded or imported audio, video stickers would start with five seconds of their own sound, and the outline toggle would sit in the sticker creation screen. The two-line compose box would move the attachment and camera icons below the typing line. Android Authority found the code in WhatsApp for Android version 2.26.41.11. Sources:
