Summary
The 14-inch MacBook Pro with Apple’s PROLED XDR tandem OLED display starts at 3,399. Both sizes use the M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, with up to 128GB of unified memory and up to 16TB of storage. Apple said the display reaches up to 2000 nits of peak brightness for HDR and SDR content, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio and a refresh rate that varies between 10Hz and 120Hz. “The new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display is a monumental step forward for the Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer. The panel covers both the P3 and Adobe RGB colour spaces, with more than 80 per cent coverage of Rec. 2020, Apple said. A nano-texture option etched into the cover glass cuts reflections and glare. Touch and the Dynamic Island Apple said the touch sensor is built into the display panel itself, which cuts latency. Users can scroll a webpage with a swipe, pinch to zoom in on a photo, drag slides from one presentation to another and double-tap a window to fill the screen. macOS translates touches into clicks, so many existing apps work with Touch at launch, Apple said. Apps that Apple lists as taking advantage of Touch include Notion, Canva, Zoom, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook, along with Adobe Lightroom, DaVinci Resolve, Blender, Maxon Cinema 4D, Maxon ZBrush, Shapr3D and Algoriddim djay Pro. Pixelmator Pro, Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro gain Touch controls through Apple Creator Studio. A Dynamic Island replaces the notch and houses Spotlight, Live Activities and Siri AI. Apple said a redesigned hinge adds stability when the screen is touched, and video stabilisation smooths the camera feed when Touch is used during a video call. Weight, ports and ship date The 14-inch model weighs 3 pounds, half a pound less than before, and the 16-inch model weighs 4 pounds, 0.7 pounds lighter. Thinner display borders take the screens to 14.2 and 16.3 inches. Apple rates battery life at up to 24 hours. Each machine has three Thunderbolt 5 ports, HDMI, an SDXC card slot, MagSafe and a headphone jack. The M5 Pro version drives up to three external displays and the M5 Max up to four. Fast charging takes the battery to 50 per cent in 30 minutes, and the six-speaker sound system has a new woofer design that Apple said gives 50 per cent deeper bass. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 run on an Apple-designed N1 wireless chip. The laptops run macOS 27 with Apple Intelligence and Siri AI. Pre-orders opened on 28 October 2026 on apple.com and in the Apple Store app in 30 countries and regions, including the US, with deliveries and availability in Apple Store locations and Apple Authorized Resellers beginning Friday 6 November 2026.
