What is Clickjacking and How to Avoid Becoming a Victim
2 min read
Summary
Clickjacking is when “hackers hijack links, buttons and clickable parts of a site”
Attackers place transparent layers over a legitimate site which then causes victims to inadvertently click on a malicious link, giving the attacker access to their account or personal data.
Clickjacking is difficult to detect as it often bypasses antivirus and malware software as it happens on reputable sites, therefore it is important to know how to protect oneself.
One of the most important ways to protect oneself is to keep all internet browsers and plugins updated, as well as keeping antivirus and antimalware software up to date.
Pay attention to what you are clicking on, if a site has suddenly introduced a prompt for confirmation that it never had before then this could be an indicator of clickjacking.
Check your clicks, if a hyperlink does not take you to the site that you were expecting then do not click on it again.
Check the URL of the site that you are on, looking carefully for typos as a mistake in the URL could take you to a spoof site.
Don’t click on pop-ups as they are often phishing scams or clickjacking attempts.
