Summary

  • Clickjacking is when “hackers hijack links, buttons and clickable parts of a site”
  • Attackers place transparent layers over a legitimate site which then causes victims to inadvertently click on a malicious link, giving the attacker access to their account or personal data.
  • Clickjacking is difficult to detect as it often bypasses antivirus and malware software as it happens on reputable sites, therefore it is important to know how to protect oneself.
  • One of the most important ways to protect oneself is to keep all internet browsers and plugins updated, as well as keeping antivirus and antimalware software up to date.
  • Pay attention to what you are clicking on, if a site has suddenly introduced a prompt for confirmation that it never had before then this could be an indicator of clickjacking.
  • Check your clicks, if a hyperlink does not take you to the site that you were expecting then do not click on it again.
  • Check the URL of the site that you are on, looking carefully for typos as a mistake in the URL could take you to a spoof site.
  • Don’t click on pop-ups as they are often phishing scams or clickjacking attempts.
