The new features are very similar to those on offer from TikTok and competitors to help it retain content creators and engage viewers.
The updates will rollout over the next few months and include an improved editing screen which allows creators to record multiple clips and piece them together within the app.
There are also new options for text overlays, stacking visuals and effects as well as improved audio tools, including sync and voiceover capabilities.
There are also new sticker options, with AI-powered stickers that can be created by typing a prompt, and improved access to the audio library.
In addition, YouTube is making it easier to share ad-free videos with friends by upgrading its Premium membership.
