From April 2025, Microsoft will block access to its Microsoft Teams platform on desktops if the user has not downloaded the latest version within 90 days of it being released.
The company traditionally stops providing security and bug fixes to its outdated versions, however, this is the first time it has taken such an aggressive approach to pushing users to keep its products up-to-date.
The move is designed to ensure all users have the same experience and don’t miss out on new features, while also protecting users from potential vulnerabilities that older, non-updated versions may suffer from.
The only exception to the block is for mobile users and for those who use the web-based platform, which will continue to be updated separately.
Users of the classic Teams client will also be blocked as this version is no longer supported.
