Summary

  • If you haven’t already, add the Google Search widget to your home screen: for Android, long press on the home screen, click on “Widgets” and scroll down to find the Google search widget, selecting it and dragging it onto the home screen; for iOS, long press on the display until the icons start shaking, then tap on “Edit,” select “Add Widget” and find the Google search widget, tapping “Add widget” to place it on your home screen.
  • Once you’ve added the widget, open the Google app on Android, click on your profile picture in the upper right corner and select “Settings,” go to “Customize Search widget” and select “Shortcuts,” then choose the shortcut you want to add to the widget.
  • For iOS, there are some additional shortcuts available, including “Activity,” which opens your open tabs in the Google app, and “Incognito,” which launches an Incognito mode window in the Google app.
  • If you have a Pixel phone, you’ll need to add another widget and then add the shortcut you want via the Google app, as the Pixel launcher doesn’t allow you to modify the default search widget.
