Apple’s iOS 15 brought a new look for the Mail app, with colourful circular contact photos next to each email and category labels at the top to organise emails from subscriptions, promotions, and more.
Some users dislike this new look and want to revert to the older, minimal design.
To do this, users can go into their iPhone settings, select the Mail app, and switch off both the “Show Contact Photos” and “Show Categories” features, which will decrease the amount of colour in the app and revert it to a simple list view.
The iOS 18.5, iPadOS 18.5 and macOS 15.5 updates provide a quicker way to do this, and users can also deselect the “Group by Sender” option to stop emails from the same sender being grouped together.
Additionally, users can deselect the “Show Priority” option to stop artificial intelligence pushing forward certain emails, and can change the mail app’s badge notification to show the number of total unread emails rather than the number of new emails in the primary category.
