Before introducing an algorithm that pushed suggested content to users, Instagram used to stick to displaying posts only from accounts the user followed.
Now, Instagram’s algorithm suggests posts to users based on their activity, connections, and trending content.
There are some options users can employ to regain some control over what they see, manage content preferences and customize their feed.
They can snooze suggested posts for 30 days, hide specific suggested posts, customize suggestions based on keywords, switch feed view, add accounts to favorites, reset content suggestions, manage content preferences, block accounts with undesirable content and customize suggested posts in the Discovery feed.
Some of these options can be accessed by tapping the three dots in the upper right corner of a suggested post.
If these options don’t help and the user wants to take a break from Instagram, they can delete or deactivate their account.
