How to See the “Charging This Device via USB” Message Again
1 min read
Summary
The ‘Charging this device via USB’ notification enables users to know when their Android device is connected to their PC, as well as when it is charging.
When the notification is not visible, users can find themselves unable to start a file-sharing session between the two devices.
Basic troubleshooting solutions for the issue of not seeing the notification include: pulling down the notification shade, restarting the Android device, checking for software updates, and ensuring Airplane mode is not activated.
The issue can also be resolved by trying a different USB cable and port, and enabling/disabling developer mode, which can be done by tapping the Build number option in the Settings app, and swiping down to Developer options, where the Default USB configuration option can be tapped.
The notification itself can be enabled/disabled by toggling Use developer options.
The USB Preferences menu, which can be accessed by tapping the ‘Charging this device via USB’ notification, allows users to change the status to ‘File transfer’ for easier file sharing.
Alternative file-sharing methods can be used if the issue is not resolved, including using the Microsoft Phone Link service, or an email app.
