Summary

  • Microsoft has pushed all Windows 11 users to upgrade to version 24H2, which downloads and installs itself automatically
  • This, however, can cause problems for users with lower spec’d CPUs, as well as some older or lesser known applications, such as Dirac Audio, Safe Exam, Easy Anti-Cheat, Citrix SRA, and others
  • In order to resolve these automatically, a user can pause the Windows update for a few weeks, or go back to the previous version of Windows 11 for a short while, using Settings > System > Recovery > Go back
  • It is also possible to reset Windows update components to resolve problematic updates, involving stopping and restarting critical Windows update services
  • As a last resort, PowerShell can be used to bypass the compatibility hold, but this should be used with care, and alternatively a user could also consider reinstalling the OS manually, using the latest Windows 11 24H2 ISO
  • This avoids any potential crashes, and ensures any incompatibilities are resolved for the user with the least trouble.
