There are several workarounds for this if you need to save a contact’s profile picture.

Using an online WhatsApp profile picture downloader tool is another option, but this will only work if the user’s profile photo privacy is set to ‘Everyone’.
The WhatsApp web app does not have the same restrictions as the mobile app, so using the web version to save a profile picture is another method.
You can also download a profile picture on desktop by using the Zoom to actual size feature in the WhatsApp photo preview tool and taking a screenshot.
