According to YouTube CEO Neal Mohan, the platform recently surpassed one billion hours of daily TV viewership, making it the most popular streaming service.
This reflects a change in user behaviour, with more people treating YouTube as a streaming service, favoring longer-form content, and using their TVs to watch it.
A variety of features on the TV app, such as interactive functionality, has helped drive this trend, while the social network and video streaming components together provide more variety than traditional streaming sites.
The ability to consume podcasts, free movies and TV shows, live sports and news, and exclusive member content is also driving the shift to YouTube on TVs.
However, Mohan also notes that some of the AI-generated content needs to improve, saying that while some is well done, some includes people with missing fingers or extra legs.
