Project Waterworth Aims to Boost Global Connectivity

Summary
Meta, the company that owns Facebook, is working to improve global connectivity through its Project Waterworth initiative to help accelerate the digital economy.
Once completed, it will be the longest subsea project to date, using 24 fiber-pair cables to cover a distance of at least 50,000km, and will connect five continents.
Meta has already invested in over 20 subsea cables over the past decade, and is particularly focused on improving connections between the US, South Africa, Brazil, India and other regions.
Improved global connectivity will help facilitate greater AI innovation and other emerging technologies, with three new oceanic corridors set to be opened up via the project.
Project Waterworth is Meta’s first subsea cable project as a single owner, however, it is a partial owner in 16 others.
