The Amazon Appstore, a popular alternative to the Google Play Store for Android users, is to be discontinued on 20 August 2025, as the company focuses on supporting just its own Fire platforms.
While users will still be able to use apps they have downloaded, some may need to find new apps or subscriptions to replace those that are no longer supported.
Android users have a number of other app store alternatives to choose from should they wish to switch.
Amazon has been gradually winding down its app support on various platforms; in March 2024 it removed its app store from Windows 11, and it is also closing its Chime video conferencing service.
Android users will no longer be able to use the Amazon Appstore or Amazon Coins after August 20, 2025, but they can use up remaining coins before the deadline for in-app purchases or refunds.
Developers can still submit updates to existing apps in the Amazon Appstore, but they cannot add any new Android apps, effective immediately.
The Amazon Appstore will continue to be available for Fire tablet and TV users, but some apps designed for Android may disappear after August.
