Summary
HP has acquired Humane, the company behind the AI-enabled Pin, for 116m,significantlylessthanthe1bn valuation that Humane itself had hoped for.
As we reported in October, the company was struggling to sell its smart pins, and was experiencing more returns than sales.
This acquisition will see the team behind the product join a new division within HP focused on developing AI for the company’s products and services.
Unfortunately, this also means that all pins will cease to function other than their offline features as they will no longer be able to access Humane’s servers after 28 February.
Pin owners who want a refund must apply by 27 February, but anyone who purchased the pin more than 90 days ago is not eligible.
