Summary

  • HP has acquired Humane, the company behind the AI-enabled Pin, for 1bn valuation that Humane itself had hoped for.
  • As we reported in October, the company was struggling to sell its smart pins, and was experiencing more returns than sales.
  • This acquisition will see the team behind the product join a new division within HP focused on developing AI for the company’s products and services.
  • Unfortunately, this also means that all pins will cease to function other than their offline features as they will no longer be able to access Humane’s servers after 28 February.
  • Pin owners who want a refund must apply by 27 February, but anyone who purchased the pin more than 90 days ago is not eligible.
