Temu, a shopping app that offers cut-price goods, is not as cost-effective as it seems, according to an article in tech and how-to website Make Use Of.
The author highlights four particular issues with Temu, the first of which is that while the prices of items on the app are low, they are likely to be so for a reason, such as poor quality, and therefore may need to be replaced more quickly, wasting money.
Secondly, the author criticises Temu’s promotion of overconsumption, citing the marketplace’s slogan ‘shop like a billionaire’, which they say encourages people to buy items they don’t need.
The third issue is that scams are prevalent on the platform, with customers finding that the tech products in particular they have bought through Temu are faulty or don’t work at all, resulting in financial losses.
Finally, the article argues that Temu has serious privacy concerns, pointing to lawsuits against the company in several US states for not complying with security standards and allowing customers’ financial information to be compromised.
