Hibernate is a power state for Windows computers, saving the PC’s current state on a storage drive, enabling a quicker resume the next time the PC is booted up, and avoiding the drain on the battery that comes with the sleep setting.
As with the Fast Startup feature, hibernation saves the entire system state, allowing for quicker boot times, however, putting a strain on the PC’s memory and shortening the life of the SSD.
Thus, hibernating the PC several times a day is not recommended.
That said, when a user knows they will not be using the PC for a while, hibernating it is a better option than putting it to sleep, as it will preserve more of the battery life and maintain the current state of the PC.
This is especially true when the user plans to resume working with the same program or file they were using pre-hibernation.
