Apple Is Making It Easier to Decide What Apps to Buy, With a Little Help From AI

Summary
Apple has introduced AI-generated review summaries for apps in its App Store
The summaries will be rewritten each week for popular apps and will comprise a one-paragraph summary of the main positives and negatives of each app
The intention is to give potential downloaders a speedy overview of other users’ experiences with the app before they commit to downloading it
This AI functionality is already in use on Amazon, and other apps such as Instagram and Snapchat, which uses it to curate feeds for users and summarise content.
The introduction of AI-generated summaries could, however, lead to increased gaming of the system, as developers may concentrate on maximising positives and discounting negatives in their apps to influences the summaries.
The feature is only currently accessible in the US to beta testers in English, but this will roll out more broadly in April, with a view to reaching all app users by 2025.
