Summary
United Airlines has agreed a deal with SpaceX founder Elon Musk to install Starlink satellite internet on its planes.
The airline has now fitted Starlink hardware on one of its aircraft, which will provide customers with high-speed internet while flying.
United plans to fit 40 planes with the system each month, with the service due to go live on regional fleets first ahead of mainline aircraft in 2026.
Customers signed up to the airline’s MileagePlus loyalty programme will get free access to the service, while it is expected to be chargeable for other users.
The system will provide consistent coverage through a laser-optic link that provides an uninterrupted connection to the constellation of satellites.
