I Tried Replacing Google With ChatGPT Search, But I'm Not Ditching Google Yet

Summary
ChatGPT has launched a Google Chrome extension which enables users to replace Google Search with ChatGPT search, to make it intuitive for users to dive between the two apps.
The extension is simple to download and install, and searches undertaken are powered by the ChatGPT 4o model, which OpenAI recommends as it has the web search function switched on to ensure up-to-date information.
However, the author finds that ChatGPT search results often provide overly detailed and extensive answers, whereas users tend to require specific web pages or a variety of web pages in a search format, without necessarily wishing to open a new ChatGPT window every time.
Furthermore, Google is still generally more useful for most search terms and also handles advanced search operators much more effectively, making it the more efficient option for specific web page searches.
Nevertheless, ChatGPT search has value when searching for information, especially when using the Deep Research tool, and it is recommended to keep this tool separated, in order to keep the clean search format and intuitive use of Google whilst keeping the option of in-depth, conversational searches in ChatGPT.
