Summary
Copying and pasting text from one source to another can result in formatting inconsistencies that are tedious to rectify.
MS Word offers functionalities to ensure that the formatting of copied text is adapted to the target document appropriately.
After copying the text, you can use the “paste special” function (available via Ctrl+Alt+V) to decide how the text will be pasted, whether keeping the source formatting, merging formatting, keeping only the text, or pasting as an image.
The source formatting can also be adapted to the target formatting by modifying MS Word default settings, which can be achieved by going to File > Options > Advanced > Cut, copy, and paste.
Several other functionalities allow you to adapt the formatting of text in MS Word, such as the format painter, dragging and dropping text, and pasting text as an image.
Additionally, MS Word allows you to collect multiple text snippets and paste them all at once, retaining formatting, using the spike function (Ctrl+F3 to cut and Ctrl+Shift+F3 to paste).
