Microsoft Is Removing the Windows 11 Installation Loophole That Lets You Skip Creating an Account
1 min read
Summary
During the set up of a new Windows 11 PC, users have previously been able to create a local account without a Microsoft Account by using the command “bypassnro”.
This is set to change, as Microsoft has announced its intention to remove the functionality of this command, stating that it wishes to enhance security and the user experience.
The reasoning behind this move is that after the 22H2 update for Windows 11, users have been required to set up a Microsoft Account during the installation process.
However, there is a way for users to continue setting up a local account, by using the command “reg add HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\OOBE /v BypassNRO /t REG_DWORD /d 1 /f shutdown /r /t 0”.
While this workaround is still effective, it is likely that Microsoft will remove this functionality soon, as they continue to push users towards using a Microsoft Account when setting up Windows 11.
