When downloading an app, it is important to review the permissions it is requesting and consider whether it needs that level of access to function, or if the access requested is unrelated to the app’s purpose.
-Permissions requested may include access to your camera, microphone, location, contacts, and storage, and these increase the risk of your personal information being harvested, sold to advertisers, or compromising identity theft risks.
It is advisable to limit permissions to those which make sense for the app to function, and periodically review the permissions you have previously authorised, switching to “allow only while using the app” wherever possible, and selecting the “ask every time” option for sensitive permissions.
iOS and Android both provide the option to review and change permissions for apps you have already installed.
