A new article in MakeUseOf argues that Netflix has lost some of its magic as it has grown, and highlights five features that once gave it a more social, personalised or convenient experience for users, but which have now been removed.
The features are: interactive shows, where viewers can make choices affecting the storyline; a “Play Something” button for instant recommendations; sleep timers, allowing users to set a timer for videos to stop automatically; a “Netflix Friends” feature, allowing users to see what their friends were watching or recommend titles to each other; and user reviews and ratings, so users could get a sense of whether they might like a title before playing.
The author laments that Netflix has become a more isolated experience in recent years, and argues that these features could enhance the platform as it continues to evolve.
