Microsoft Now Wants You to Try the Controversial Windows Recall Feature Again

In May 2024 Microsoft announced a new feature called Recall which acts as a search function for screenshots and documents to enable users to find content they had seen before that they might want to refer to again.
However, it was criticised for being a privacy nightmare because of concerns that personal data could be accessed and used by third parties.
After addressing some of those issues Microsoft started rolling out the feature to Windows Insiders in November 2024, but it still caused concern as it was recording sensitive data such as credit card and Social Security numbers, prompting Microsoft to further delay the rollout.
It is now being made available again to Windows Insiders following a further review, with Microsoft emphasising that users are in control of what snapshots are saved, and the ability to pause the saving of snapshots at any time.
While Microsoft hopes to make the feature available more widely they say that, although there are benefits to using it, potential privacy issues must be considered by individuals when deciding whether to use it or not.
