Google is removing country code top-level domain names and will redirect users to its main website, Google.com, in a bid to streamline the user experience.
Country specific web addresses, such as Google.ng for Nigeria, will no longer be used.
The change will be rolled out gradually over the next few months and users may be asked to re-enter some of their search preferences.
Google has said the move will not affect search results or how it handles national laws, and it has provided a consistent search experience for all users since 2017, regardless of which domain they use.
The switch highlights how Google is responding to increased competition from emerging search tools, such as Reddit and AI chatbots.
