Microsoft Is Making a Big Change to the Taskbar and I Hate It
1 min read
Summary
A new feature in Windows 11 is currently in beta which enables icon scaling in the taskbar.
This is designed to help users with a large number of open apps reduce clutter on the taskbar.
However, the current implementation of this feature makes all icons very small when the taskbar is full, which makes selecting the required icon difficult on larger monitors.
Additionally, dynamic scaling gives rise to visual artefacts, makes switching apps slower and can affect system performance.
It also disrupts the user experience and is not ideal for multi-monitor setups or those with visual or motor skill difficulties.
Suggested improvements include more scaling options, custom limits and minimum threshold sizes, as well as better animations.
Until icon scaling is improved, it will not be a good user experience when released to the public.
