AI PCs are expensive because of their inclusion of a neural processing unit, resulting in a hefty price tag that puts consumers off, according to a MakeUseOf article.
Besides being expensive, the integration of AI is shallow and feels bolted on, and the benefits offered little which cannot be gained from online chatbots or dedicated AI software, according to the same report.
AI PCs do not yet offer much to everyday users, with most of the purported benefits being minor enhancements of traditional PCs.
The author states that AI tasks are still better in the cloud, where they can be run on powerful hardware, able to handle tasks current NPUs cannot.
Microsoft acknowledged that consumers were not buying their AI PCs in droves, instead opting for older, less expensive models.
