As someone who has built several gaming PCs over the years, I follow a few rituals to keep the system game-ready. Most of these are BIOS settings the average PC user might be scared to change, while others are changes within Windows itself, since the OS is far from gaming-friendly. Whether it’s making registry changes, power options, or other similar tweaks to optimize Windows for gaming, the overall process is time-consuming and complicated. Fortunately, I was able to make all these fixes in just one place, resulting in squeezing 15% more performance on my setup, all thanks to this one tool: Optimizer Duck. What Optimizer Duck actually does A free, GPL-licensed de-bloater with zero telemetry Optimizer Duck is a free, open-source Windows tool designed to de-bloat the OS and further optimize it for gaming. There’s nothing Optimizer Duck does out of the ordinary, but it groups all the fixes and changes you’d manually make in one place. That is especially helpful for someone new to the PC community who wants to tweak their system for better performance. With Optimizer Duck, you’re able to disable unnecessary Windows services and background tasks, remove or disable telemetry, adjust networking settings as well, manage first-party Windows apps, and apply various registry tweaks that would be quite complicated to do manually. Inside the dashboard and tabs Seven categories covering hardware and OS-level tweaks For testing, I used Optimizer Duck on my AM4 rig with a Ryzen 5 5600, 16GB of DDR4 RAM, and an RX 5600XT. This mid-range configuration is perfect for seeing how much performance Windows is locking you out of with the default settings. I use Windows for tasks other than gaming, so I didn’t disable many first-party apps because, lately, they have actually gotten somewhat decent. When you open Optimizer Duck, you’re greeted with a clean dashboard that shows system resources, including your RAM, CPU, GPU, and drives, and also shows what’s currently being used.   • Performance handles general tweaks, including disabling background apps, optimizing the multimedia scheduler to reduce network latency in gaming, prioritizing active apps, and more.

  • GPU tab has loads of registry tweaks that help unlock performance, mostly power states, but they differ by GPU brand.
  • Power management disables general power-saving features that can hurt performance and efficiency, like USB power saving, hibernation, and fast startup.
  • User experience leans more towards general Windows 11 usage, such as UI changes like disabling Start menu web search, hiding recommendations in Start, disabling visual effects, etc.
  • AI section helps disable the AI features in Windows 11, most notably System Recall and Click to Do. All of these tweaks are labeled with a risk and status tag that shows whether the setting is safe to toggle and for what kind of user, whether they want surface-level tweaks or advanced ones. You’ll also find tags on each setting that show what it impacts, whether it’s RAM, performance, latency, disk, system, etc. The tweaks I applied and the FPS gains they produced Up to 15% improvement in the 1% lows across three titles I tested With more than 50 tweaks to choose from, depending on your system and GPU type, there are tons of opportunities to get a performance boost from Optimizer Duck. However, some of these settings require you to sacrifice Windows features that might be useless for some but useful for others. I didn’t blindly enable all the settings, but only the ones that are essential and that I know provide a performance increase and not otherwise. In 007 First Light, 1% lows improved by a massive 15%, and my gameplay started feeling more consistent and smoother. Similarly, the improved 1% lows in Apex Legends also smooth out any drops that I experienced in fights and open areas. Performance improvements aren’t the only thing Optimizer Duck is good for A one-stop shop for cleanup, customization, and app management Optimizer Duck goes far beyond Windows settings and registry tweaks, and in a nutshell, it’s a complete hub for all the improvements you’d want to get the most performance out of your system. You’ll find various customization options for the system, desktop, preferences, and gaming. Even though the options in the customization sections are already on Windows, they’re now under the same roof. There’s also a bloatware tab that lets you remove third-party and first-party apps that may not even show up in Control Panel or Settings. It also lists services, again marked safe or cautious to remove. Beyond that, you can configure startup apps and scheduled tasks. The best feature after optimization in Optimizer Duck is the disk cleanup, and it makes cleaning junk on Windows easier, exposing files that the OS tends to hide for some reason. I freed up more than 4 gigabytes of storage from this section on my C drive, where Windows 11 is installed.
