Technics put its best earbud tech into over-ears, and I'm not going back

I spent over 13 hours on two planes wearing these new Technics EAH-A1000 over-ear headphones, and I have to say they’re some of the best I’ve ever worn.
With a 45-hour battery, fast charging capabilities, and a host of audio technology that comes from Technics’ long line of hi-fi expertise, the A1000 headphones perform at the top of their game. I can’t remember a better headphone experience, and I’ve tested quite a few pairs over the years.z
Technics has spent years putting its best tech into earbuds. The EAH-AZ100 earned its reputation with a tiny magnetic fluid driver to reduce distortion and wobble, and the company’s previous over-ear EAH-A800 has been around since early 2022.
The EAH-A1000 is Technics’ new flagship, built around a newly developed 40mm version of that magnetic fluid driver, plus a redesigned Flow Arm headband, adaptive ANC, and three-device multipoint Bluetooth capabilities.
It all adds up to an audio experience that felt like sitting in a jazz club and hearing the audience reactions around me as I flew home with these headphones on my head.

sfromcompanieslike[Soundcore](https://www.makeuseof.com/soundcore−space−2−review/)before,andnoneofthemhadtheiron−cladANCthatthesedo.ThemostIcancompareittoaremyAirPodsPro3s,whichdefinitelyshutouttheloudnoisesfromairplanes.TheseA1000headphonesreallykeptmefromregisteringjetnoiseonthelongflight,andthey′relessofaninner−earpushthanmyAirPodsare.Theambientmode(orTransparency,ifyou′reusedtoApple′sterms)isverygood,too,lettingmehaveconversationswithpeopleincoffeeshopsandathome,whilethemusicshinesandthephonesblockexternalnoiseatthesametime.Phoneandvideocallsaregreat,too,withAI−poweredbeamformingtechthatletsthepersonontheotherendhearjustyourvoice,notalltheracketgoingonaroundyou(likedogsincessantlybarkingatdeliveries).ShouldyoubuytheTechnicsEAH−A1000?Ultimately,I′veendedupwearingtheTechnicsEAH−A1000headphonesforprettymucheverythingatworkandatplay,andIdon′tseemyselfevergoingbacktoadifferentpairanytimesoon.They′relight,comfortable,andsoundamazing,andwhilethey′reonthehigherend,price−wise,at449.99, I think they’re worth every penny.
You should buy the Technics EAH-A1000 if:
Sound quality comes before everything else
You often juggle three devices (phone, laptop, tablet)
You want a wired lossless option over USB-C
You want physical controls that are easy to use
You shouldn’t buy the Technics EAH-A1000 if:
You rely on quick top-ups (15 minutes only gets you about 4 hours)
You can’t afford the $449.99 price
You can’t find the greige color (kidding, but it does look great)
I was a little wary of keeping a pair of big headphones on my ears for such a long travel day, getting on and off airplanes and being in noisy jet cabins and airports, but I needn’t have worried. The Technics EAH-A1000 are the best set of headphones I’ve ever used, and they’re likely to be the pair I reach for the most from here on out. The tech inside makes them sound incredible; the design is good-looking and functional, and being able to bounce between a computer and two phones with a single touch is worth the price alone.
