  • PS5 gains a dedicated anime hub next spring for shows, anime-inspired games, and Crunchyroll access.
  • Hub aims to make anime easier to discover on PS5 without searching through existing media apps.
  • It links shows, anime games and originals like Ghost of Tsushima: Legends. Coming next spring, Sony is planning to add a dedicated anime hub to the PS5 home screen. Per Sony’s official announcement, you can use it to watch many popular anime series, play anime-inspired games, and access Crunchyroll directly. The main premise behind this is to make anime easier to discover without needing to search through the PS5’s existing media apps. While Sony hasn’t shown what the hub will look like, it seems to be a prominent new section inside the PS5 interface instead of a replacement for the Crunchyroll app. PS5 wants to appeal to anime fans more But you’ll probably still need a Crunchyroll subscription If you’re a fan of shows like Jujutsu Kaisen, One Piece, Demon Slayer, or Solo Leveling, the hub will provide a quicker route into the large anime library already available on your PS5. These titles are already part of Crunchyroll’s catalog, although Sony has not confirmed which series it will specifically feature inside the PS5 hub at launch. Besides shows and films, the anime hub will also include anime-inspired games. This should let you have a thorough anime-themed day on your PS5 and seamlessly switch between watching an anime and playing video games based on similar worlds or characters. Sony says anime and gaming have “deeply engaged and overlapping fan communities,” which explains why it wants to bring both sides together on the PS5 home screen. Thankfully, the hub is going to be more than just a destination that compiles what we already have on PS5. One new confirmed production tied to it is the upcoming Ghost of Tsushima: Legends anime series. Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini mentioned the adaptation while describing the hub as the next step in the company’s relationship with PlayStation. PS5 owners in the US already have another option for watching anime without paying. Sony recently introduced free live TV on PS5, with ad-supported channels showing titles including Naruto, Sailor Moon, Hunter x Hunter, Death Note, and Black Clover. However, that service is separate from the forthcoming Crunchyroll hub. With these recent updates and announcements, it seems like Sony is hoping to make the PS5 the only device you need next to your TV to meet all your entertainment needs.
