Summary
OpenAI, the creator of the controversial chatbot ChatGPT, has launched Deep Research, a new AI-powered search tool that can analyse text, images and PDFs to compile researched reports.
It is based on the company’s reasoning model that has been optimised for web browsing and data analysis, and represents a step towards its goal of creating artificial general intelligence (AGI) that can match or surpass human capabilities.
However, like other AI models, Deep Research can hallucinate or generate incorrect information, and responding to queries can be compute-intensive and therefore take up to 30 minutes.
Deep Research is currently available to OpenAI Pro subscribers at no extra cost, and will be rolled out to other users shortly.
