This startup just hit a big milestone for green steel production

Summary
Steel made using renewable energy sources could be available sooner than expected, thanks to progress made by Massachusetts startup Boston Metal with its large-scale molten oxide electrolysis (MOE) facility.
The anode-containing plant produced over a ton of metal, positioning the firm to licence the technology to steelmakers within several years.
Typically, steel production generates over 3bn tonnes of CO2 annually, but Boston Metal’s process, which emits oxygen, could virtually eliminate the sector’s climate impact, according to the firm.
Furthermore, because MOE was developed at MIT, the process is not dependent on scarce resources, making it more accessible and affordable.
