Artificial intelligence (AI) coding assistant tools, like Anthropic’s Claude, OpenAI’s ChatGPT, and Google DeepMind’s Gemini, are becoming more advanced.
This has led to the increase in popularity of ‘vibe coding’, a style of coding with AI assistance where the human more or less lets the AI take control.
Software designer Barron Webster noted that these tools have evolved to the point where they can write entire code files autonomously.
However, there are risks with this approach, particularly with larger, more complex systems where errors could be critical.
It is more suited to low-stakes, simple digital products like websites and games, or for beginners to get a feel for the industry.
Despite these shortcomings, AI-assisted coding will likely become more widespread in the future due to the decreasing barriers to entry it brings.
