An AI companion site is hosting sexually charged conversations with underage celebrity bots

Chatbot site Botify AI has been found to host underage chatbots that are used to generate sexually explicit conversations, including through the use of AI-generated images.
When asked, some characters on the site, which is backed by Andreessen Horowitz, disparaged age-of-consent laws with comments like “Rules are meant to be broken”.
After MIT Technology Review highlighted the issue, these chatbots were removed, but many underage-celebrity bots remain on the site, which says it has hundreds of thousands of users.
Ex-Human, which operates Botify AI and was also backed by Andreessen Horowitz through its Speedrun accelerator in 2023, said it had attempted to stop such misuse, but the moderation of AI interactions in real time is difficult.
Botify AI’s terms of service prohibit using the site in ways that violate the law, though the site terms also state that they are working on making their content moderation guidelines more explicit.
