You Can Taste Cake in Virtual Reality With This New Device

Summary
Researchers at Ohio State University have developed a taste sensor that could eventually be used to simulate taste in virtual reality (VR) experiences.
The e- Taste device features a small, gum-like strip attached to a liquid reservoir and pump, and uses a series of liquids that replicate primary taste sensations, including salty, sweet, bitter, umami, and sour.
It was able to successfully recreate the flavours of lemonade and cake in a trial, but more complex flavours, such as those in a fried egg, were not positively replicated.
However, the device could eventually be used to enhance VR gaming, as well as help those who have lost their sense of taste.
