The Surprising Longevity of Electric Vehicles: They Now Live as Long as Gas-Powered Cars
1 min read
Summary
Data analysed from the UK Department of Transport by the London School of Economics and Political Science revealed that the average electric vehicle (EV) lasts 18.4 years, which is 1.5 years longer than diesel vehicles and just seven months shorter than petrol vehicles.
Furthermore, the median mileage on an EV is 124,000 miles, which is 8,000 more than petrol cars.
This analysis might finally put to bed reservations about EVs’ lifespans and encourage more motorists to make the switch to electric.
EVs already have lower maintenance costs and these results show they also last as long as, if not longer than, fossil fuel vehicles.
This would also help the UK meet its carbon emissions targets, given that transport is a significant contributor of greenhouse gases.
