On March 13, 2024, a bipartisan vote by US Congress demanded that the Chinese owned video sharing app, TikTok, be sold or face a ban.
MAGA influencers see the app as a relatively stable platform to publish pro-Trump content without fear that their accounts will be demonetized, restricted, or worse, deactivated.
Trump, well aware of the strong support from the app’s younger generation, launched his own account after this vote and his account “just crushed”.
This data showed that since November 2023, there had been 1.29 million pro-Trump posts versus 651,000 pro-Biden posts.
Trump then launched his own account, TikTokers soon started reposting his content, and as the operative put it: “His account just crushed.”
100 days later, the Trump campaign had garnered 2.8 billion views, the most of any campaign or politician on the platform.
This momentum has carried past the election, too: since January 1st, @TeamTrump has gained a staggering 230 million views and 16 million likes.
