YouTube is testing blurred thumbnails for ‘mature content’
1 min read
Summary
YouTube is to begin blurring the thumbnail images in search results that relate to sexual themes in order to protect younger or more unsuspecting users from inappropriate content.
The titles, channel names and video descriptions will remain visible, and viewers will be able to unblur the thumbnails if they wish.
The move is designed to prevent users from accidentally clicking on videos that may be sensitive in nature but which adhere to YouTube’s community guidelines.
The new feature is currently being rolled out to a small number of viewers in order for YouTube to understand whether it is effective in providing a safer search experience for users.
