Alphabet company, Waymo, has said it will expand its autonomous fleet from 1,500 to 3,500 Jaguar I-Paces by 2026, adding 2,000 more vehicles to its robotaxi service across its markets in San Francisco, LA, Phoenix, and Austin.
The company recently achieved an average of 250,000 paid trips per week, and is looking to expand into Atlanta, Miami, and Washington, DC in the next two years.
Two new vehicles are also being tested and validated for deployment in the future, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and the all-electric Zeekr RT minivan.
Full capacity at Waymo’s Mesa factory will allow the company to produce “tens of thousands” of robotaxis annually, with each vehicle leaving the factory ready to accept passengers within 30 minutes.
The announcement comes as Tesla plans to launch a rival robotaxi service this year.
