Microsoft’s new Surface devices ditch magnetic charging port for USB-C

Summary
Software giant Microsoft has abandoned its magnetic Surface Connect charging port in favour of USB-C charging for its new Surface devices.
The Surface Laptop 13-inch and the Surface Pro 12-inch are now charged through USB-C, the universally standardised port.
This is the first time Microsoft has not included its Surface Connect port on a Surface device, and it is assumed the larger devices will also follow suit in subsequent releases.
EU initiatives to reduce e-waste have encouraged Microsoft to eliminate chargers for its Surface devices, unlike Apple which includes a charger in the box with its iPhones.
Microsoft’s previous Android phones and several Surface models have already converted to USB-C charging, including the latest Surface Pro 11.
