Android’s splashy new paint job won’t yank Gen Z from iPhones

Summary
An Android blog post intended for release on 5 May, which was accidentally published and then pulled by Google, has leaked giving insights into the new Material 3 design aesthetic for Android handsets.
While the theme is customisable, Google appeared to highlight pink, purple, and coral throughout the interface in its marketing images.
The post also emphasised youth appeal, saying younger users showed the most enthusiasm for the design.
However, Android’s biggest hurdle in appealing to younger demographics may be its competitor Apple and its iPhone handsets, which are reportedly the most popular among US teenagers.
An investment bank survey from 2025 found that 88% of American teenagers owned an iPhone.
