Apple is planning smart glasses with and without AR

Summary
Apple’s latest device could be a pair of smart glasses to rival Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses, with a bespoke chip designed by the tech giant.
It is claimed that the chip has been miniaturised from the Apple Watch’s chip, with some components removed to fit the smaller smart glasses platform, whilst still managing the multiple cameras the glasses will have.
It is hoped that mass production of the chip will be available by the end of 2026 or early 2027, with the smart glasses launching at the same time.
Separately, Apple is also reported to be working on augmented reality glasses, akin to Meta’s Orion smart glasses revealed last year, with an expected launch date of 2027.
The reports also suggest new Apple Watch and Airpod chips are also in the works for around the same time, alongside new M-series and AI server chips.
