Summary
Political pressure by the US government appears to be behind a number of countries recent approvals of Elon Musk’s Starlink service.
According to a report in the Washington Post, US embassies and the State Department are said to have been actively encouraging the adoption of the service in deals which, while not directly tied to tariff reductions, have been made with that aim in mind.
An unnamed Indian government source is quoted as saying that “regulatory approval for Starlink was sought with the understanding that doing so could help them cement trade deals with the administration.”
Starlink recently launched a deal specifically for emergency services, offering 50% off its usual succumb price of 599,withanentry−levelkitconsistingofasatellitedish,routerandmountingtripod,foraone−offpaymentof299.
