Amazon has partnered with Vetsource to offer customers in the US an online pet pharmacy service, through which it will sell and deliver hundreds of prescription pet medications, including treatments for fleas, ticks, and chronic conditions.
The service works by pet owners searching for their required medication on Amazon, and inputting their veterinarian’s information at checkout, after which point Vetsource dispenses and delivers the items within two to six days.
For first-time orders, Vetsource will contact the veterinarian for approval, but refills should not require further veterinarian contact if the customer has an active prescription already on file.
Amazon’s move comes as it and other big tech companies compete to bring increased convenience to the prescription drug market, which has also seen Walmart launch a rival service in 2019.
