Google is currently in the US antitrust court, fighting to preserve its search engine business model
Executives from Apple have appeared in the trial and taken Google’s side, despite the fact that the two companies compete in many areas.
This is probably because Apple receives $20bn a year from Google as part of a deal to make it the default search engine in Safari.
This week, Apple’s Eddy Cue argued that Google is in a competitive market and should be left alone, despite the fact that searches are down in Safari and AI could cannibalise search.
The episode also covers other antitrust news, such as Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri’s comments in the Meta trial and the changing App Store marketplace.
Gadgets covered include Meta’s addition of facial recognition to smart glasses, Apple’s foldable phone, and Microsoft’s new Surfaces.
Other news stories covered include Netflix updates and robot lawnmowers.
