An inside memo from Meta’s CTO Andrew Bosworth reveals that the company views its AI, sensor and software investments as a opportunity to develop the technology needed for robotics, and is setting up a team to work on “humanoid robot hardware” for household chores.
Meta is said to be planning to manufacture the hardware and software for robots, rather than making its own branded product, and is in talks with companies including Unitree Robotics and Figure AI.
The company has recently expanded its AI efforts with a $65bn investment, and has hired the former CEO of The RealReal, John Koryl, as vice president of retail, as it also ramps up efforts to sell its smart glasses.
This latest development indicates the company is expanding into the AI-powered hardware market, following recent hiring of top AI researchers and acquisitions of AI startups.
