How to turn on Lockdown Mode for your iPhone and Mac
1 min read
Summary
Lockdown Mode, available on iPhones, iPads and Macs, offers users an extremely high level of security and protection for their data, with Apple suggesting it is aimed at users who feel they could be targeted by state-sponsored attackers or those with the most sophisticated methods.
The mode has been criticised for limiting the functionality of devices, with messages attachments blocked and FaceTime calls restricted to contacts made in the past month.
It can be turned on and off by users, and is enabled on a device-by-device basis, rather than an account-wide basis.
To enable it, users need to open Settings, select Privacy & Security and scroll down to Lockdown Mode, then select Turn On. They will be prompted to confirm the decision.
To disable it, they need to select Turn Off instead of Turn On within the Privacy & Security menu.
Safari users can also choose to exclude certain websites from restrictions posed by Lockdown Mode.
