Mexico is suing Google over how it’s labeling the Gulf of Mexico

Summary
Mexican president Claudia Sheinbaum has announced that her government is taking Google to court over its decision to rename the Gulf of Mexico to Gulf of America for US users.
Sheinbaum had previously threatened to take the matter to court and is demanding that the search giant complies with the official US decree.
However, she pointed out that the US does not have the authority to unilaterally change the body’s name.
Mexico and Cuba both lay claim to parts of the Gulf, and it is these that the US does not have the right to rename.
US president Trump had originally ordered the renaming of the body early in his presidency, a move that was supported by some and derided by others.
Google was one of the first companies to agree to the rename, swiftly updating its maps service.
