Summary
If recipients are anything like The Verge journalists, they will have received an email regarding the Lopez v Apple Inc class action lawsuit, which alleges that the tech giant violated user privacy by recording private conversations through Siri, and forwarding them to third-party contractors.
Apple has denied the allegations, but has agreed to a settlement, from which device owners could receive a payout.
To be eligible, owners must have owned an Apple device with Siri functionality from 17 September 2014 through to 31 December 2024, and experienced the voice assistant activating during a private conversation.
They have until 2 July 2025 to claim up to 100(20 per device for up to five devices).
Class action lawsuits provide a method for groups of individuals to bring their grievances against an entity, and to receive compensation for any wrongdoing.
This is an evolving situation, and the bullet points above are likely to be updated as new information emerges.
